4 Understanding Jesus: The Son of David

This is the fourth sermon in the 2021 Lent Series which is designed to help us better understand who Jesus is.

At the Triumphal Entry, the day Jesus wrote into Jerusalem on a Donkey, people shouted in praise “Hosanna to the Son of David!” It’s a title used of Jesus 17 times in the New Testament. What does it mean and why does it matter? Eugene H. Peterson explains it this way: “The David story anticipates the Jesus story. The Jesus story presupposes the David story… If we are going to get the most out of the Jesus story, we’ll want to first soak our imaginations in the David story.”

This title has a lot to do with God’s promise to King David and reminds us that God is the original and ultimate promise keeper. This sermon will offer three practical ways we can respond to this texts.
