2 Understanding Jesus: 1st & 2nd Adam

This is the second sermon in the 2021 Lent Sermon Series.

The Bible refers to Jesus as the 2nd Adam and to Adam as a type of Jesus. This sermon, based on Romans 5:12-21, will help us understand this connection and help us make a bit more sense of why the world is the way it is, why people are the way they are, and why we are the way we are. We discover that when Adam sinned in the Garden of Eden, it opened to the door to sin and death. Furthermore, every human being since then has been born with a sinful nature. But Jesus, the 2nd Adam, though his obedience and substitutionary death has made justification and righteousness available to anyone who believes in him. In other words, the 1st Adam made a mess, the 2nd Adam made things right. This is the good news of the gospel of grace. This sermon will encourage us to respond to this good news in three different ways.

“Between sin and grace, in fact, grace wins every time.” ~ Tony Evans
