3 An Afflicted Person's Lament

This is the third sermon in our Mourning Into Dancing series and it is based on Psalm 102. The historical context of this psalm is the Babylonian captivity when God’s people had been taken by force away from their land. The holy city, Jerusalem, laid in ruins with its walls and the temple destroyed. At that time, God’s people called on him to remember his covenant promise to Israel, so their lament turns into a prayer of confidence and hope in God. Here are four lessons we learn from this psalm:

1. Sin always has collateral damage
2. Prayer and praise should express a full range of emotions
3. There is always hope for the people of God
4. God is unchanging (his lovingkindness and faithfulness last forever)
