6 The Suffering Church

Almost from its inception, the church has faced attacks from without - it is the suffering church. However, we must remember that problems from within the church tend to lead to disunity whereas threats from without often unify the church. Much of the church around the world, with the exception of north America and some parts of western Europe, experience some form of persecution for their faith. If you feel you're being persecuted for your faith, ask yourself this question: if I gave up my Christian faith, would this (what you are experiencing that you feel is persecution) go away? If the answer is yes, then it's persecution; if the answer if no, then it's just part of living in a fallen world.

In this sermon you will learn about the types of persecution and the emperors that lead persecution against the early church, and about the reason why the church was persecuted. Several outcomes of persecution will also be shared. You will also be challenged to prepare for persecution (just in case it ever comes) and encouraged to be hopeful because Jesus guarantees the triumph of his church.
